On Monday 23 July, 2018 at Nawair UD Deen Primary School, Education Rights Campaign (ERC) kick started the 13th edition of the annual Free Coaching that was initiated in 2005 in the Ajegunle community, one of the poorest communities in Nigeria. The free coaching is expected to run for six weeks for students in SS1, SS2 and SS3
Since the kick off in the opening ceremony of the exercise, more than 100 students from both public and private schools within and outside the community have attended exercise. In addition, volunteer teachers are also coming down to teach subjects like Mathematics, English Language, Biology and other related Science, Art and Commercial subjects.
Remarkably, some of the volunteer teachers who were once beneficiaries of the ERC Free Coaching Lesson in the past, are now graduates from various Universities.. Parents within the community are also coming down to enquire more about the lesson.
For majority of the parents coming down to enquire, it is unbelievable hearing students attend free tutorial centre without payment. For them, it is not possible. The ERC, which campaigns for adequate funding of education, organizes the free coaching to demonstrate that free and quality education is possible
This exercise also helps to engage young people especially students from poor and working class background who are unable to pay higher tutorial fee in any of the private organized respective Tutorial Centres in the community. This is more important at this period when youth restiveness with associated social tensions is on the rise in Ajegunle.

The Education Rights Campaign want to use this medium to appeal for material and financial support from individuals and organizations.
Support to this far reaching programme can help to boost the activities in the coaching that has contributed hugely to young people in the community for the past 14 years with exception of last year when we could not secure a venue. It shows the consistency of the ERC and also the reputation the free coaching exercise has built in the Ajegunle community.
