AMOSUN SHOULD END THE NEGLECT OF OGUN STATE COOPERATIVE COLLEGE NOW!

FOR ADEQUATE FUNDING AND REVERSAL OF FEES
Press Statement

We of the Education Rights Campaign (ERC) in Ogun state condemn in strongest terms the neglect of the Ogun Cooperative College, Ijeja, by the Ibikunle Amosun government. This was partly demonstrated with the exclusion of the institution from the fee reduction policy recently declared by the state government. While we in the ERC view the fee reduction as being minimal, it is more appalling that the policy is not enjoyed by all students of higher institutions in the state.

The institution is in a total state of disrepair as a result of conscious neglect by the state government. The lecture theaters are in dilapidated state while learning facilities such as libraries are obsolete. The mass of the students in the institution are left to their own fate.

We view the state of affairs in Ogun State Cooperative College as a real picture of the anti-poor disposition of the Ibikunle Amosun regime to education. We call for qualitative improvement in the infrastructure and facilities on the campus and adequate funding of the institution. We equally call for the reversal of the fee hike in the institution in order for students from the poor working class background to access public education of their choice in the state.

We in the ERC are of the fundamental view that the ruling classes are not interested in adequate funding public education based on the glaring fact it reduces the amount of public resources to be looted. We call for the struggle of workers and students for better funded and quality education to be linked to the struggle to put in power a working people's government at all levels.
